History
Short cautionary Islamic stories are often moved to tears by their simple but very wise plots, and these tears are the result of Muslims' long reflection on the unsophisticated stories, which teach a great deal.
How a milquetoast woman married the son of Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab

One such story tells of the Caliph Umar ibn Khattab, who used to change his clothes in the evening and go for a walk in the city: pretending to be an ordinary man, thus showing an interest in the concerns of the common people. On one such walk he approached the house of a milkmaid and overheard a conversation between her and her daughter: the mother suggested that her daughter should dilute the milk with water, but the daughter objected to her, reminding her that there was a caliph's prohibition against this. Then the mother said that the Caliph would not know about it, and the daughter objected: "If the Caliph does not see, Allah sees!

Caliph Umar ibn Khattab was so impressed by this girl's words that he married his son to her and they became the parents of Umar ibn Abdul-Aziz, the only Umayyad caliph to be a just ruler.
